Class Pricing
Classes and Private Lessons at Patchwork are priced on a sliding scale. The goal is to make classes more financially equitable: folks who have limited income can still access our service at a lower price while folks who can afford to pay more can help offset the lower price. Whatever price feels comfortable to pay is the right one for you, no questions asked.
Patchwork offers three price tiers:
Accessible Price
The lowest tier* is offered to folks who are not able to afford the class at the higher price, need to save money, who have limited income, or are paying off debt/student loans. It is not a discounted or sale price.
Standard Price
This is the actual price of the class. If you’re unsure what to pick, it’s this tier.
‘Pay It Forward’ Price
This tier is for folks who have more reliable income and/or more assets and would like to help cover the costs of other folks and help contribute to studio overhead.
*Note: We also offer scholarships to folks for whom the lower price point is still out of reach. Please send us an email to learn about scholarships.
Cancellation
In order for a class to run, there needs to be a minimum of 2 students. In the case that there are not enough students to run the class, Patchwork will cancel the class. The single student has the option to reschedule, receive a credit, or receive a full refund. In the case that a weekly recurring class is not at full capacity, spaces will be opened up for Open Sew drop ins.
Multi Session Classes - Students who cancel a multi session class at least 48 hours ahead receive a full refund. Cancellations after the 48 hour window receive a class credit only. No shows forfeit their payment, except in the case of illness or hardship. In this case, they can request a credit as well.
No shows due to illness etc do not usually receive makeups, but students can always come to craft night to work on completing unfinished projects. Makeups can sometimes be offered in the case of teacher illness or with the discretion of the teacher in special circumstances.
Guest teacher and 1 day workshops - Students who cancel a workshop 48 hrs in advance receive a full refund. Cancellations after the 48 hour window will forfeit their payment, except in the case of illness or hardship. In this case, they can request a credit.
Health and Safety
At this time, Patchwork does not require masks in class though we will always respect your decision to wear one! If you are feeling ill, please stay home.
All teachers and staff are up to date on vaccines including Covid & Flu. Staff and teachers who feel ill are required to test and/or mask as necessary to prevent spread of illness.
If you would like to book a private shopping appointment or lesson, please get in touch and we will be happy accommodate your needs. We are also happy to facilitate mask-required events and gatherings for groups.
Accessibility
Our space is on the 2nd floor. There is a wheelchair ramp at the front of the building by door #1 (next to the Miss Lorraine Diner). The unit can be reached by stairs or elevator. We have two shared gender neutral bathrooms, though they are not ADA compliant. Please get in touch if you have other needs and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Patchwork is an open and inclusive space and we do not tolerate discrimination based on race, class, gender, sexuality, ability, or size.
Patchwork promotes a 'body neutral' philosophy and we ask students to adopt this when attending our classes. For more information about body neutrality, visit this link.
Scholarships and Outreach
Patchwork Community Craft offers need-based scholarships for folks interested in taking our classes. If you'd like to take a class but need financial assistance, please send us an email! Typically, one scholarship spot is available per class and scholarships are approved on an honor system.
We also offer work-trade opportunities for folks with financial need who want to take classes and still compensate the space in a non monetary way.
If you are an organization or non-profit looking for somebody to lead workshops or events related to sewing, pattern making, fiber crafts, or fashion entrepreneurship, Patchwork founder Taylor McVay is available for both paid and unpaid engagements. Please reach out to schedule a meeting to discuss details.
